Abstract
necessário conhecer as razões desse abandono.
atividade profissional pouco qualificada.
The present research takes place in a context where early school dropout and school failure remain an issue on which it is important to reflect and intervene. Benguela is a city where there has been a high early school dropout, despite improvements in recent years, it is necessary to know the reasons for this complex phenomenon. Thus, this research was aimed at analyzing the dropout in primary education: "analysis of family and curricular factors." The study is of qualitative nature and eminently exploratory, being carried out with 30 teachers and 168 students of the schools in question. To these a survey was applied, intending to collect the perceptions of teachers and students about the determining factors of school dropout, as well as a guide for observation and interview with teachers and school principals / executive directors. After a thorough analysis of the collected data, it was observed that there is a significant academic failure and school dropout rate: many students do have difficulty in staying motivated to invest in school learning. This situation is due to several factors, such as outdated methodology of some teachers, not adequate teaching materials, irrelevant curriculum to their real life context, maladjustment to school, absenteeism, early parenthood, low socioeconomic status of families and lack of encouragement by from parents. We have detected the need for new promotion and enhancement strategies of school learning, still largely neglected due to the perception of a greater relevance of low-skilled occupation. Indeed, many students drop out of school to work, since they need to help their families.
