Abstract
NEO-FFI-20 e QM_D-a-D.
The literature analyzing mental load has focused on specific sectors such as health and education. This study aimed to analyze mental load in workers from different professional fields in Portugal. The main objective of this study was to evaluate mental load and its relationship with working conditions and individual variables (e.g., personality, sociodemographic variables and subjective memory complaints). A sample of 150 participants was used, 68.7% female and 31.3% male, aged between 18 and 65. Non-probability snowball sampling was used, with an online questionnaire as the means of data collection. The participants completed the following self-reporting instruments: Sociodemographic Questionnaire, Car-Men-Q, NEO-FFI-20 and QM_D-a- D were used. Statistical analyses were carried out using SPSS. The results indicated that professions with high cognitive and emotional demands (especially in the health sector) have higher levels of mental load.Personality traits such as extroversion and conscientiousness correlated with lower perceptions of cognitive and performance demands, while neuroticism was associated with higher emotional and temporal demands. In addition, it was revealed that cognitive, emotional and performance demands are associated with greater perception of subjective memory complaints.
