Abstract
Este trabalho investigativo pretende estudar o insucesso escolar em matemática,
focalizando-se na identificação dos fatores que estão na base do insucesso escolar na
disciplina de Matemática dos alunos da 10ª Classe do Instituto Médio Industrial de
Benguela. Definiu-se como objetivo geral: Contribuir para a compreensão desses fatores,
sobretudo nas características do processo docente-educativo da disciplina de Matemática
dos alunos da Instituição referenciada. Utilizaram-se os seguintes métodos: Análisesíntese,
indutivo-dedutivo, pesquisa bibliográfica, matemático-estatístico, inquérito por
questionário, observação e entrevista. Os procedimentos de investigação foram a análise
de literatura relativa à temática, análise dos resultados da observação às aulas, análise dos
resultados da entrevista aplicada à Direção da Escola e análise dos resultados do inquérito
aplicado aos estudantes (N=125), professores (N=17) e pais/encarregados de educação
(N=60). Os resultados da interpretação dos dados permitiram concluir que os fatores que
estão na base do insucesso escolar na disciplina de Matemática dos alunos da dos alunos
da 10ª Classe do Instituto Médio Industrial de Benguela são: Fraca estimulação à
participação de todos os alunos nas aulas, inadequada dosagem dos conteúdos
lecionados, insuficiente participação dos pais e/ou encarregados de educação na vida da
Escola e débil preparação Matemática dos alunos nas classes anteriores.
This research aims to study school failure in mathematics, focusing on the identification of factors that are the basis of school failure in the Mathematics of students of the 10th Grade at Benguela Industrial Middle Institute. It was defined as a general objective to contribute to the understanding of these factors, especially the characteristics of the teaching-educational process of Mathematics concerning the abovementioned group of students. The following methods were used: Analysis-synthesis, inductive-deductive, bibliographical research, mathematical-statistical techniques, questionnaire survey, observation and semi-structured interview. The research procedures consisted in the review of scientific literature on the subject, analysis of the results obtained through the observation of the classes, analysis of the results of the interview applied to the Direction of the School and analysis of the data from the survey applied to students (N = 125), teachers (N = 17), and parents (N = 60). The results of the interpretation of the data allowed to conclude that the factors that underlie school failure in the subject of Mathematics of the students of the 10th grade of the Benguela Industrial Middle Institute are: poor stimulation of participation of all students in class, inadequate or insufficient participation of parents in the school activities, and weak mathematical preparation of the students in the previous classes.
