Abstract
As
auxiliares externos. Foram ainda encontradas correlações significativas entre estas
dimensões e traços como a conscienciosidade, agradabilidade e estabilidade
emocional, distress e funcionamento cognitivo. O MPMI-S revelou-se uma medida com
potencial de ser incorporada em avaliações clínicas.
Recent evidence suggests that cancer diagnosis and oncological treatments can impact cognitive functioning, with frequent complaints reported regarding prospective memory (i.e., the ability to remember an action intended to be performed at a future moment). However, gaps remain in the availability of measures to assess this construct. This study aimed to translate and culturally adapt the Short Version of the Metacognitive Prospective Memory Inventory (MPMI-S) in a sample of Portuguese cancer survivors. The process involved translation-back translation, analysis by a panel of experts, and pre-testing to ensure content validity. The psychometric properties were explored in a sample of 111 cancer survivors [M(SD) = 49.3(9.4), ages 18-65]. The internal consistency of the measure was assessed, along with factorial validity using a principal components analysis and convergent validity. The final version, with 18 items, proved to be reliable and valid, comprising 4 factors: prospective forgetting, monitoring and planning strategies, imagery and mental visualization strategies, and strategies related to the use of external aids. Significant correlations were also found between these dimensions and traits such as conscientiousness, agreeableness, and emotional stability, as well as distress and cognitive functioning. The MPMI-S demonstrated potential for incorporation into clinical assessments.
