Abstract
escolas do Ensino Básico.
It is a fact that Basic Education Schools often adopt the use of Information and Communication Technologies. It is also a fact that the access to these technologies, particularly the access to the Internet by children and young people, has been increasing considerably both in school and extra school environments, without an effective control. The present work consists on a study carried out within Basic Education Schools and it tries to analyze the different aspects concerning the issue of online safety: the technologies, the human resources and the processes involved. The fact that this is a quite widespread question about which few studies have been made so far led to the option for a qualitative study and the application of a case study methodology. The procedures for the gathering of data included the application of an online semi-structured interview conducted with teachers who would be involved in the development of projects or works which would rely on Information and Communication Technologies. The data were gathered through email, an online form and social networks. The global results of the study lead to the conclusion that the issue of online security involves a diversity of aspects which surpass the boundaries of school. Some projects are being developed in the schools, but these projects present faults some of them concerned the development of the teachers. The results of the study lead furthermore to the conclusion that the Education Tutors need to be (in)formed about the issues involved in online security. Finally, the results of the study lead to the conclusion that a number of entities with responsibilities both in the contents and their spread over the Internet should assume a more proactive role concerning the issues involved this subject.
