Abstract
Cancer is one of the main causes of child mortality and has a significant impact on the psychosocial functioning of children, adolescents and their families. Given this, there is growing interest in developing more cost-effective interventions that mitigate the effects of the disease on informal caregivers, overcoming geographical and logistical barriers. This study presents a systematic review of the literature on the effectiveness of digital interventions for family caregivers of children and/or adolescents with cancer. The search was conducted in five databases: PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, Web of Science and CENTRAL, resulting in 9 eligible articles. All the studies involved parents as primary caregivers, covering a total of 1086 caregivers. The studies found suggested that digital interventions, using online platforms and digital applications, have the potential to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, with moderate to large effect sizes, and improve the quality of life of caregivers, especially in approaches based on the principles of cognitive-behavioral therapy. The interventions were also shown to promote improvements in resilience. This study could serve as a resource for researchers and health professionals, helping to identify effective technological solutions to support caregivers in the context of pediatric oncology.
