Abstract
The main objective of this study is to investigate how the victimization of adolescents, according to various types of intra-family abuse, and subsequent institutionalization determine the process of resilience, the capacity for emotional regulation and temporal orientation of the subjects. Participants integrate two heterogeneous groups: a group of institutionalized adolescents (N=30), male and female, aged between 14 and 18, students from 6th to 12th grade, and a group of young people not institutionalized (N=30) of both sexes, with the same age and schooling of the subjects of the previous group, and also a subgroup (N=7) of institutionalized adolescents of both sexes, selected according to theoretical criteria. A mixed methodological design, drawing on quantitative and qualitative method was used. For the quantitative study of resilience, we used the Module Assessment of Resilience in Healthy Children, version 6.0 (HKRAM), and to measure emotional regulation appealed to the Range Difficulties in Emotional Regulation (DERS). The collection of qualitative data was based on documentary study of individual cases of institutionalized adolescents, to identify the type of abuse to which the subjects were victims, and scripted narrative interview to assess the process of auto interpretation the subjective lived experience and temporal perspective or orientation of the subject. The results show that, comparing the groups of institutionalized young people and non-institutionalized are some significant differences in the scale factors are resilient, while the overall result of the scale shows no significant differences. At the level of emotion regulation, is not sensed significant differences between the two groups. Regarding the construction of life stories, institutionalized subjects are characterized essentially by a focus on negative past episodes and no future perspective (showing a "tragic" narrative pattern).
