Abstract
Education is one of the main instruments for promoting social and economic equity, as well as combating inequalities and injustices. School, besides being an educational establishment, is also an environment that fosters adaptation and integration into society. Experiencing this period becomes extremely important for the development and future of the child. The learning process has a very significant impact on society, as evidenced by the effects of academic failure, which can have major consequences in the medium and long term. This is because education is important for professional success and future quality of life, making school one of the most immediate paths to prepare for the future of society. Thus, for school to be accessible to all, it is necessary to contribute to the educational and social integration of students. In this work, a survey of research conducted between 2018 and 2023 was carried out on government official websites, non-governmental institution sites, Google Scholar database, and Scielo database. This work utilized a qualitative approach, with a hypothetical-deductive method and bibliographic and documentary analysis in books, chapters, scientific articles, legislation, and official government websites. This research aimed to contribute to the debate on the academic success (or lack thereof) of immigrant children in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
