The aim of this paper is to assess the importance of Port Wine for the tourism development of the Douro landscape, using a case study approach based on interviews with several stakeholders, through qualitative research. For this purpose, we selected a sample of respondents composed of the sector stakeholders of Port vineyards. The results allow us to ponder and highlight the importance of the PortWine culture for the region’s development, as well as to identify the economic, social, and emotional values inherent to those who work in the sector based on an identity connected to the territory. This study focuses mainly on the approach taken to wine tourism, identifying the level of investment made in this area in terms of specialized training for employees, the creation of facilities and procedures suited to the practice of this type of tourism, as well as the values of the territory and wine that should guide the development of wine tourism activities in the Port Wine region. The impacts of COVID-19 on the sector are also analyzed, classifying them into different dimensions.Publication Open Access Service quality in health and wellness tourism: Trends in Portugal2011 - Correia, Anabela G.; Antunes, Joaquim G.; Quintela, JoanaThe purpose of this study was to: a) analyze the impact of service quality on client satisfaction; b) identify travel behavior and c) assess the attributes that are more important and more satisfaction-oriented from the client point of view. These objectives are designed to provide health and wellness tourism units with a better understanding of the market; help them match supply to the needs, wishes and attitudes of their target markets and draw up improved plans for developing their potential. The empirical data, collected in five Portuguese hot springs units, was evaluated using a modified SERVQUAL scale. Attributes designated as more pleasing, and those receiving more emphasis, were assessed through the Importance-Performance-Analysis model. Travel behavior was assessed by means of a purpose-made questionnaire. In terms of service quality, we confirmed that aspects relating to attendance ("ability of the employee to perform accurately and dependably", "employee's willingness to help the customer and provide prompt service", "capacity to provide individualized attention") were more satisfying for users of these units. Through the IPA, we established that the attributes of "quality / price ratio"; "quality of complementary services (lodging and leisure)"; and "geographic location (quality of transport and accessibility)" offered were of less interest to clients. Implications for Portugal were discussed.Publication Open Access Service quality: A competing value in health and wellness industry2010 - Correia, Anabela G.; Antunes, Joaquim G.; Quintela, JoanaThis study examined the impact of service quality on clients’ satisfaction. The empiric data were collected through surveys administrated to the users of five Portuguese thermal units and a hotel Spa. The investigation was based on SERVQUAL scale presented by Parasuraman, Zeithaml and Berry (1985). Necessarily, this model was adapted to the nature and characteristics of health and wellness industry. The dimensions of the service quality scale were reduced to the more significant ones for the studied units (attendance, assurance and tangibles). The results showed that are the aspects related to assurance and attendance that give more satisfaction to the users, that service quality is an antecedent of clients’ satisfaction and it has an impact on users’ loyalty.Publication Open Access "If you don’t know me by now": The importance of sustainability initiative awareness for stakeholders of professional sports organizations2022-04-19 - Santos, Teresa; Cayolla, Ricardo; Quintela, JoanaThis study explores the importance of sustainable initiatives (SI) in sport for the stakeholders of a professional sports organization (PSO) after three months of absence of the public at the stadiums due to the pandemic situation. Two topics—diversity and inclusion (DIVIN) and the attraction and retention of human capital (ARHC)—were considered and analyzed. A third factor—the distance of residence of the members and the PSO—was considered as an element of the possible relationship between the awareness of the SI and the assessment of the topics in question. A total of 5694 PSO members took an online survey. Through the description of the data, the results show that being aware of the SI performed is a crucial factor for the success of the SI. Distance positively influences SI awareness. The topics considered are rated most positively by members with awareness of the SI, with a higher rating for the topic with the highest external visibility.Publication Open Access Health, wellness and medical tourism: A conceptual approach2016 - Costa, Carlos; Correia, Anabela G.; Quintela, JoanaNowadays, health, wellness and medical tourism are recognized as one of the most developed and growing sector of today’s thriving tourism industry that has increased its activity worldwide, due to a lot of social and economic circumstances that leads people to achieve and pursue a better quality of life.
