Biography
Miguel Ricou. Concluiu o Doutoramento em Psicologia Clínica pela Universidade de Coimbra em 2012. É Professor Auxiliar e Investigador-coordenador no Departamento de Ciências Sociais e da Saúde da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto. Publicou 18 artigos em revistas especializadas e 24 trabalhos em actas de eventos, possui 21 capítulos de livros e 3 livros publicados. Possui 258 itens de produção técnica. Orientou 13 dissertações de mestrado e co-orientou 3 nas áreas de Ética e Psicologia. Recebeu 5 prémios e/ou homenagens. Entre 1998 e 2007 participou em 5 projectos de investigação, sendo que coordenou 2 destes. Actua nas áreas de Ciências Sociais com ênfase em Psicologia e Humanidades com ênfase em Filosofia, Ética e Religião. Nas suas actividades profissionais interagiu com 77 colaboradores em co-autorias de trabalhos científicos.

Publication Open Access Abortamento: enquadramento legal, deontológico e perspectiva ética2011-01-01 - Canário, Catarina; Figueiredo, Bárbara; Ricou, MiguelA interrupção da gravidez antes do limite gestacional da viabilidade fetal está inerente a uma reflexão multidisciplinar, pelos conflitos que envolve. Do ponto de vista legal, os documentos vigentes em Portugal têm vindo a ser alterados ao longo do tempo no sentido da protecção da saúde da mulher, possibilitando-lhe a informação e apoios necessários a uma tomada de decisão livre, informada e esclarecida. Os determinantes deontológicos acerca dos profissionais de saúde face ao abortamento legitimam a prática em conformidade com a lei, no entanto, salvaguardam o direito de cada um desses profissionais à objecção de consciência. A discussão ética acerca do abortamento nas suas diferentes formas engloba a preocupação com o valor da vida humana intra-uterina, mas também com o respeito pela autonomia individual. Muito embora a discussão acerca do estatuto moral a atribuir à vida humana intra-uterina se perspective em torno de diferentes correntes e opiniões, conclui-se que diversas perspectivas são aceitáveis, numa perspectiva de valorização da diversidade interpessoal. Pregnancy interruption before fetal viability limit is inherent to a multidisciplinary reflec- tion, due to the conflicts involved. Portuguese laws have been altered along time in the way of women’s health protection, allowing the needed information and support towards a free, informed and enlightened decision. Deontological determinants about health professionals towards abortion indicate the practice accordingly the law. Nevertheless, it is safeguarded their right to consciousness objection. Ethical discussion about abortion, in its different ways, includes the concern about the value of intrauterine human life, and also the respect for individual autonomy. Even though the debate about intrauterine human life moral status is viewed from different theories and points of view, it is concluded that different perspectives about this matter are acceptable, in an interpersonal diversity valorization point of view.Publication Open Access A educação sexual em meio escolar: uma perspectiva ética2006-01-01 - Duarte, I.; Canário, Catarina; Serrão, C.; Ricou, MiguelA Educação Sexual (E.S.) faz parte, naturalmente, do crescimento, que se pretende o mais harmonioso possível, da pessoa humana. Nesse sentido, e tendo em conta a cada vez maior complexidade de todas as actividades humanas, torna-se premente a educação formal, para além da informal, a este nível. Nesta perspectiva, a educação assume-se como mais uma dimensão de um exercício adequado dos cuidados de saúde. Neste artigo, pretendem os autores, discutir os pressupostos e objectivos da E.S., tendo como base a estruturação ética fornecida pelos princípios desenvolvidos por Tom Beauchamp e James Childress, a saber, o princípio do respeito pela autonomia, a benefi cência, a não-malefi cência, e a justiça. Conclui-se que, naturalmente, a educação sexual não só é positiva para o desenvolvimento da pessoa, como se torna imperativa na persecução de uma sociedade mais justa e integrativa.Publication Open Access Roadmap for a systematic review of the literature: The identity of psychology2017 - Costa-Lobo, Cristina; Esteves, Tiago; Almeida, Leandro S.; Franco, A.; Ricou, MiguelThe systematic review of the literature concerns a scientific method of research and analysis of papers in a particular area of science. In this paper, we present the roadmap of a systematic review of the literature about the identity of Psychology. This systematization precedes a survey about this reality in Portugal, through interviews with Portuguese psychologists. This research stems from questions and reflections about the recognition of the role of psychological intervention in today's societies. Given the great development of the psychological science, as well as the emergence of a wide range of activities that are associated, the need to understand the role of psychologists and psychological intervention becomes relevant. Such considerations created the goal of reflecting on the psychologists' professional identity in the present and, consequently, on the identity of Psychology itself. The present study attempts to shed some light on the phenomena associated to the professional identity of psychologists, namely, by answering one central research question: What is the fundamental and exclusive goal of psychological intervention, and which distinguishes it from any other type of intervention? Moreover, the present study aimed to analyze how psychologists define themselves and are defined by other professionals and by the public in general; to identify the difficulties that psychologists perceive in their functions as professionals; and also, to identify how psychologists interpret and describe their functions. The data that compose the present systematic review of the literature result from the extraction of documents from the following data sources: Web of Science, ELSEVIER Scopus, Scielo, APA PsycNet, Pepsic, CAPES, and b-on. The three main phases in the development of this roadmap (Initiation, Processing, and Exit) are presented. Also, the tasks of the following steps are identified: 1) identification of the need to carry out a systematic review of the literature on the selected theme; 2) elaboration of a proposal for the systematic review and development of the draft revision; 3) selection of databases, descriptors, and studies to be included in the proposal; 4) selection of studies; 5) preparation of the first consensus meeting among researchers; 6) evaluation of study quality; 7) organization of the data to be included in the research; 8) extraction of the data and synthesis of the data obtained; 9) final report, recommendations and transfer of evidence to practice.Publication Open Access Women and men’s psychological adjustment after abortion: a six months prospective pilot study2011-08-19 - Canário, Catarina; Figueiredo, Bárbara; Ricou, MiguelThe psychological impact of abortion is a controversial issue. While some studies indicate that women who had elective abortions present lower psychological distress when compared with those who had spontaneous or therapeutic abortions, other studies found abortion to be associated with significant psychological distress. Objectives: To assess psychological adjustment (emotional disorder, trauma symptoms and couple relationship) one and six months after abortion, and gender differences regarding psychological adjustment, and to assess the moderation role of couple relationship in the effect of the etiology of abortion on emotional disorder and trauma symptoms. Methods: Women (n=50) with different etiologies of abortion agreed to participate, as well as 15 partners (N=65). Assessments took place one and six months after abortion. Measures included the Brief Symptoms Inventory, the Impact of Event Scale-Revised and the Relationship Questionnaire. Results: A decrease in emotional disorder for all etiologies of abortion and an increase in perceived quality of couple relationship in therapeutic abortion were observed over time. Couple relationship moderates the effect of the etiology of abortion on trauma symptoms one month after abortion. Tais considerações devem fazer-nos refletir sobre a identidade profissional dos psicólogos no presente e, consequentemente, sobre a identidade da Psicologia como área científica. Assim, o presente poster apresenta uma revisão sistemática da literatura das principais considerações obtidas. This statement, first research process stage more plural, disclose the process and the first products of a qualitative systematic literature review, grounded, explaining and describing all stages of the data collection and the synthesis. It is expose the first results obtained after the review of 202 studies, based on the qualification categories: published date, document typology, editor nationality, methodologic perspective, research method, sample size, publication impact factor and the citations quantity in the primary study.
