Abstract
O presente estudo está centrado no papel da liderança nas escolas e das competências
socioemocionais dos gestores escolares, procurando explorar a relação entre estas
duas dimensões. Para isso, procedeu-se à recolha de dados em dois agrupamentos
escolares da zona Centro de Portugal, que incluiu membros da Direção, professores e
assistentes operacionais.
Com o objetivo de investigar as relações existentes entre estas dimensões, foi aplicada
a metodologia qualitativa, mais especificamente estudos de caso centrados em dois
agrupamentos escolares da Região Centro. Recorreu-se, assim, à utilização de
questionários relativos à perceção dos professores e assistentes operacionais sobre a
liderança e competências socioemocionais dos membros da Direção e a um
questionário de autorrelato da inteligência emocional destes membros. Para além disso,
e atendendo à importância crescente das novas tecnologias no ambiente escolar, foram,
também, avaliadas as competências digitais dos gestores escolares e professores,
através de um questionário.
Com base nos resultados, foi possível observar uma associação forte entre as
competências socioemocionais e a liderança dos gestores escolares, verificando-se um
efeito preditor destas competências na liderança. Constatou-se, ainda, que os gestores
escolares e professores reconhecem a importância das novas tecnologias e procuram
implementá-las no seu contexto escolar.
Deste modo, este estudo salienta a relevância da dimensão socioemocional no
desempenho de uma liderança eficaz e ajustada aos desafios atuais.
The present study is centred on the role of leadership at schools and on socio-emotional competencies of school leaders, aiming at exploring the relationship between these dimensions. In this sense, it involved the recruitment of school leaders, teachers, and support staff of two groups of schools of the Centre region of Portugal. In order to investigate the relationships between these dimensions, we used a qualitative methodology, more precisely a study case focused on the two groups of school of the Centre region of Portugal. We used questionnaires regarding teachers’ and support staff’s perceptions on leadership and socio-emotional competencies of school leaders, and one questionnaire focused on self-report socio-emotional competencies. Furthermore, due to the importance of technologies in school environments, we assessed digital skills in both teachers and school leaders through a self-report questionnaire. Our results showed a strong association between socio-emotional skills and leadership, and the predictor role of these skills on leadership. We also found that teachers and school leaders recognise the relevance of technologies and try to implement them in their academic context. This study highlights the importance that the socio-emotional dimension can have on an effective leadership that enables the adjustment to day-to-day challenges.
