Abstract
As the implementation and evaluation of psychological interventions supporting career decision making and career adaptability are needed, this research aims at evaluating the impact of a career intervention program for 9th-grade students. Thirty-three students of both genders aged 14 to 16 years old, and their caregivers participated in this study. Students attended two public schools in Vila Nova de Gaia and were distributed by intervention (69.70%) and comparison (30.30%) groups. Students responded to measures of career adaptability, career decision-making and decision-making difficulties, in two moments. Caregivers answered an interview prior to the psychological intervention. Wilcoxon's test results suggested that, after the intervention, students present greater career adaptability levels and lower career decision-making difficulties. According to Mann-Whitney tests, the intervention group tended to perform better than the comparison group. Chi-Square tests suggested associations between parental dimensions and students’ change profiles identified from the Reliable Change Index. This research supports the importance of career psychological intervention and attends to the need to expand offers and engage caregivers in this field.
