Abstract
Universidade Portucalense (UPT), no ano letivo 2012/2013.
e permanente.
This work discusses self-efficacy and academic adaptation as sources of adjustment to higher education from a socio-cognitive perspective. It is intended to contribute to understand the relationship between perceived self-efficacy and academic experiences in order to promote a positive adjustment to the academic context. The sample for this research consists of 50 participants, with female majority (n=44, 88%), aged between 19 and 46 years, with 90% of participants younger than 24 years old. Mostly students attending the 2nd year (n=29, 58%) of the first cycle of studies in psychology at the University Portucalense (UPT), in the academic year 2012/2013. Was administred the questionnaire to collect sociodemographic data (Cordeiro & Costa Lobo, 2013), the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Self-Efficacy (Teixeira, 2008) to measure self-efficacy and also the Academic Experiences Questionnaire - short version (Almeida, Ferreira & Soares, 1999) to measure the academic adaptation. We analyzed the association between self-efficacy and academic adaptation, we made analysis of differences between groups in terms of sociodemographic variables such as the year, the option of choosing the course and educational institution, the average input, and the perception of the state of health. The results were discussed in light of socio-cognitive theory, and lead us to consider that the promotion of efficiency in private higher education environment appears promoter of the adjustment of students to the academic context, through a continuous and ongoing process.
