Abstract
atitudes globais face à violência no namoro e as atitudes face à violência psicológica
e as atitudes globais face à violência.
estudos a desenvolver no futuro.
This study aimed to identify relations between emotional intelligence (EI) and the attitudes toward psychologic violence in dating, in high-school adolescents. The participants included 262 high-school students from Viseu (114 males e 145 females), ranging in age from 15 to 20 years old (M = 16.14, DP = 1.08). Sociodemographic information was collected to characterize the participants and the scales used to assess emotional abilities (emotional perception, emotional expression, emotion management), global attitudes towards dating violence, and attitudes towards psychological violence (verbal violence, dominant behaviour, and excusing violence) were subjected to validity and reliability analysis, showing good psychometric qualities. The results indicate a negative correlation between EI and the global attitudes towards violence. There are gender differences regarding the relations between EI and attitudes towards psychologic violence, specifically the relation is higher in boys when compared with girls. Confirming prior literature, also in this study verbal violence is the most legitimated type of violence among the students. The study seeks to provide some suggestions for interventions aiming at promoting EI and preventing dating violence with adolescents and reflects on possible studies to develop in the future.
