Abstract
El desarrollo turístico que se ha vivido en las últimas décadas a nivel mundial tiene un
impacto significativo en los lugares de destino turístico, por lo que este tema es de relevancia
y actualidad para la comunidad científica y para los decisores políticos y económicos.
Al reflexionar sobre el concepto de destino turístico, debemos considerar el concepto de
“Lugar” donde tienen lugar las experiencias recreativas de los turistas y donde su actividad
produce un efecto.
Frecuentemente, antes de que haya un destino turístico, existe un determinado sitio
geográfico, pudiendo existir o no una relación con determinado individuo o grupo de
individuos. Sin embargo, se han reducido los estudios realizados en el ámbito del turismo
dedicado a comprender la relación de los individuos con los lugares. Los estudios dedicados
al turismo parten de la premisa de que los destinos turísticos son lugares donde se desarrollan
las experiencias turísticas, pero ni los destinos turísticos son obligatoriamente lugares ni los
lugares son obligatoriamente destinos turísticos.
Esta investigación propone un modelo de análisis e interpretación de las percepciones
de los individuos con relación a los lugares por medio del concepto de Sentimiento de Lugar
y de los destinos mediante el concepto de Destino Turístico. El modelo conceptual se validó
empíricamente con una muestra de 500 encuestas a turistas internacionales en el Aeropuerto
de Lisboa. Los resultados permitieron producir un instrumento útil para la actividad de los
decisores institucionales del sector del turismo.
The touristic development on a worldly basis, in the past decades, has had a strong impact on the touristic destinations, which is the reason for its relevancy and actuality to the scientific community and the political and economic decision-makers. When reflecting on the concept of touristic destinations, we are led to consider the concept of the “place” where the recreational experiences of the tourists happen and where their activity has an effect. Frequently, before the existence of a touristic destination, a certain geographical location already exists, though the relation with one individual or with a group of individuals might exist or not. Nevertheless, the researches on tourism, that aiming to understand the relationship between individuals and places are few. The researches on tourism start from the premise that the touristic destinations are places where touristic experiences take place. However, not only the touristic destinations are not necessarily places, nor are the places, necessarily touristic destinations. This investigation propounds an analysis and interpretation model that uses the concept of Sense of Place for the individual, and the concept of Touristic Destination for the destination. The conceptual model was empirically validated by a sample of 500 surveys using international tourists at the Lisbon Airport. With the results we have produced a useful tool for the institutional decision-makers in the tourism sector.
