Abstract
Nowadays, aging is a growing concern and there is a need for the population to adapt to it. Socio-cultural animation is a strategy to promote the development and participation of individuals in their own development, with a view to minimizing / eradicating needs and problems resulting from everyday life. This case study addresses the theme of intergenerationality and its relevance to the understanding of family relationships. It aims to understand the impact of the implementation of intergenerational activities on the elderly users of the Social Center of Gião, with a view to improving the well-being and quality of life of the elderly. It was based on the analysis of a concrete reality of coexistence between two distinct groups, the elderly and children, up to three years of age, incorporated into the day-care and day-care social response, with which a set of intergenerational activities were implemented, the project "Being + Happiness". This project has as main objective the promotion of the quality of life of the users of the Day Center in question through the implementation of intergenerational activities, with a view also to the reach of later proposed objectives, such as the promotion of happiness, social segregation, the contribution to changing the negativist perspective, the capitalization of the educational value of intergenerationality to change routines, the understanding of the relationship between intergenerationality and the behavior of the elderly, and the creation of intervention strategies in the elderly to promote their greater involvement. In order to evaluate the impact of the project on the elderly users of the CSG, the following methods of data collection were used: interview, documentary analysis and participant observation. The impact of the implementation of intergenerational activities in the improvement of the quality of life of the elderly of the Social Center of Gião was observable to the qualitative point, but not quantitatively measurable.
