Abstract
The area of parenting has been the target of interdisciplinary interest, with different approaches emerging as a result of progress in child care and education. Among all the new educational perspectives, we will focus exclusively on Montessori Pedagogy. Maria Montessori (1870-1952) was an Italian psychiatrist who dedicated most of her life to Education. This pedagogical method (Montessori Pedagogy), which ranges from the education of newborns to university age, is mainly linked to the autonomy of the child, observation of the adult, respect and freedom within limits through a specifically and previously prepared environment This Master's Thesis aims to understand how Maria Montessori's pedagogical method influences the development of a child's autonomy in early childhood. To achieve this, we outlined the following objectives: i. Characterize the educational practices of Montessori pedagogy applied in the educational environment; ii. Understand how Montessori pedagogy enhances the development of child autonomy during early childhood. The literature review, document analysis, interviews and questionnaire survey were the data collection instruments selected to respond to the objectives. The study demonstrates that a prepared environment, with the help of an adult with a passive role and freedom of choice enhances the development of autonomy in the child, as well as self-confidence and self-esteem in problem solving, which, therefore, allows better preparation for the future.
