Vinculação em jovens adultos e motivação para a parentalidade.

Abstract

Este estudo pretendeu compreender quais as associações entre as representações de vinculação aos pais e ao par amoroso as motivações para a parentalidade em jovens adultos. A amostra é constituída por 234 estudantes universitários de ambos os sexos, entre os 18 e os 25 anos. Os instrumentos utilizados foram o Questionário de Vinculação ao Pai e à Mãe, o Questionário de Vinculação Amorosa e a Escala de Motivação para a Parentalidade. Estes foram submetidos a procedimentos de validade (fatorial) e fidelidade (consistência interna), revelando índices de ajustamento e valores de alfa de Cronbach adequados. Os resultados indicam um maior número de associações entre a Ansiedade de Separação na relação com o pai e as dimensões das motivações positivas para a parentalidade; entre a Inibição da Exploração e Individualidade na relação com a mãe e as motivações negativas para a parentalidade; entre a Dependência na relação com o par amoroso e as dimensões das motivações positivas para a parentalidade; e entre a Ambivalência na relação com o par amoroso e as motivações negativas para a parentalidade. A Ansiedade de Separação ao pai, a Dependência e Ambivalência ao par amoroso e a Ansiedade de Separação à mãe foram identificados como preditores das motivações positivas para a parentalidade. A Ansiedade de Separação ao pai e a Ambivalência e Dependência na relação com o par amoroso foram identificados como preditores das motivações negativas para a parentalidade. Verificaram-se efeitos multivariados, da vinculação ao par amoroso, do género e do desejo de ter filhos no futuro, ao nível das dimensões das motivações positivas para a parentalidade. Foram ainda apurados efeitos multivariados da vinculação ao pai, da vinculação ao par amoroso, da idade e do desejo de ter filhos no futuro ao nível das motivações negativas para a parentalidade. Por último, os resultados indicam que os dados da vinculação podem ser lidos à luz do modelo prototípico de Bartholomew. Este estudo permite concluir que as relações de vinculação estabelecidas ao longo do ciclo vital (pai, mãe e par amoroso) têm repercussão na motivação positiva e negativa para a parentalidade de adultos emergentes.

The aim of this study was to understand the association between the representation of connection to parents and couples and the motivations towards parenting in young adults. The sample consists of 234 higher education students of both genders, between the age of 18 and 25. The tools used were the Father/Mother Attachment Questionnaire, the Romantic Attachment Questionnaire and the Childbearing Motivations Scale. These underwent validity procedures (factorial) and fidelity (internal consistency), revealing adjustment indices and adequate Cronbach’s alpha values. The results indicate a greater number of associations between Separation Anxiety in the relationship with the father and the dimensions of the positive motivations towards parenting; amongst Inhibition of Exploration and Individuality in the relationship with the mother and negative motivations towards parenting; amongst Dependency in the relationship between the loving couple and the dimensions of the positive motivations for parenting; and amongst Ambivalence in the relationship between the loving couple and negative motivations for parenting. Separation Anxiety from the father, the Dependency and Ambivalence to the loving couple and Separation Anxiety from the mother were identified as predictors of positive motivation to parenting. Separation Anxiety from the father and the Ambivalence and Dependency in the relationship with the loving couple were identified as predictors of negative motivations towards parenting. There were multivariate effects of attachment to the loving couple, gender and desire to have children in the future, in terms of the dimensions of the positive motivations for parenting. There were also calculated multivariate effects of attachment to the father, of the attachment to the loving couple, age and desire to have children in the future in terms of negative motivations for parenting. Finally, the results indicate that the binding data can be read in the light of Bartholomew’s prototype model. This study shows that the relationship of established attachments throughout the life cycle (father, mother and loving couple) have repercussions on the positive and negative motivation for parenting emerging adults.
