Abstract
Different studies refer to the presence of cognitive and behavioral deficits in ADHD, as a consequence of a compromise in the activation of prefrontal cortical and subcortical circuits. Being considered a neurobiological disease with alterations in some areas of the brain and its associated circuits, the prefrontal and parietal cortex, the cerebellum, the basal ganglia and the associated circuits, are of the main affected regions, which implies an alteration of the inhibitory control, work memory, reaction time, as well as other executive functions. As ADHD is being identified as a developmental disorder of the pathways that project to the prefrontal cortex, neuropsychological studies have focused on demonstrating executive dysfunctions in this area and in their connections. In this chapter, we will refer to these findings.
