| dc.description.abstract | A presente dissertação, com vista a obtenção do grau de doutor, tem como finalidade, com recurso a uma documentação diversificada e consistente, a reconstituição da história sócio-cultural da ilha da Boavista, desde o seu descobrimento até meados do século XIX. A obra em apreço debruça-se sobre a formação da identidade boavistense, pelo exame dos elementos essenciais dos aspectos físicogeográficos, da problemática da descoberta, do povoamento e da consequente colonização da ilha da Boavista. Aborda a formação das estruturas económicas e sociais da ilha, passando em análise os elementos económicos, como a pastorícia, a agricultura, o comércio e a actividade artesanal, a emergência da sociedade e a evolução da população boavistenses. O trabalho foca ainda as estruturas sócio-culturais que moldaram a mentalidade do povo da Boavista ao longo da sua história, como a religião, o casamento e o ensino, assim como as manifestações sócio-culturais, como a superstição, as festas tradicionais, os cantos e as danças, ressaltando nuances culturais e psicossociais das quais se torna possível um melhor conhecimento histórico-cultural da referida sociedade. A obra estuda também a crise da sociedade boavistense dos meados do século XIX, como consequência, de um lado, de uma conjuntura político-económica internacional desfavorável e, de outro, das fomes e das epidemias, entre outros eventos internos que afectaram profundamente as estruturas económicas e sócio-culturais da ilha da Boavista. This essay, with the aim of obtaining the grade of doctor, has as finality with searching to on variable and consistent documentation, the reconstitution of the social-cultural history of Boavista Island, since its discovery till the middle of XIX century. This composition has as the main target, the formation on of the Boavista identity, examinating its essential elements of the physical and geographic aspects, the problematical of its discovery, the peopling and consequent colonization of the Boavista Island. It talks about the formation of economical and social structures of the island taking on account the pasturing of cattle, the agriculture, commerce and craftsmanship, the emergency of the society and the evolution of Boavista population. This work talks to the social and cultural structures which made the Boavista people mind during its history, as the religion, the wedding and teaching, and also the social-cultural manifestation, as the superstition, the traditional parties, the songs and dancing emphasizing the cultural and psychological aspects which the better knowledge history-cultural of the society comes true. The composition also studies the social crisis of Boavista society in the middle of the XIX century, as consequence, by one side, an unfavorable international political-economical situation and by other side, the hungries and epidemics, among other intern events which affected duple the economic and social-cultural structures of Boavista. | pt_PT |
