Abstract
resultados obtidos demonstraram a existência destas alterações, confirmando as
This research is focused on the Special Education, concerning the Hearing Shortage and Deafness, and its main objective is to understand whether the presence of the audiologist is an advantage and if it works as a complement to the linguistic, social and cognitive development of the child attending the 1st year of Primary School. This starting question was made: Is there any need to integrate an educational audiologist in Primary Schools? In order to try to answer to this question and to all the others that arose concerning this work, twenty-two schools in a northern region of the country were selected and a hearing screening was made, which included a brief anamnesis, an otoscopy and an audiogram to the students attending regular classes. The purpose of using this tool for collecting data was to determine whether there were otologic or hipoacoustic changes that could be detected by the educational audiologists in the school context, justifying their presence and above all enabling early intervention and ongoing monitoring of the child targeted with an otological alteration and momentary or permanent hearing loss. The results revealed the existence of these changes, confirming our work issues and leading us to conclude that if there are any students that have already been signed by the family doctor, there are advantages in the inclusion of the audiologist in the multidisciplinary team that operates in this educational context. We can therefore conclude that despite the benefits shown in the inclusion of these health professionals in these teams, it is still a little known profession in contexts apart from the hospital and clinical ones.
