dc.description.abstractThe behaviour of employees who turn up for work but are not productive or involved in their activities is called presenteeism. Employees are physically present, but their efficiency and real contribution to the company׳s tasks and objectives are low. Presenteeism can be detrimental to the company because, although employees are present, the lack of productivity can lead to lower-than-expected results, less efficiency and, consequently, have a negative impact on profits and organisational culture. To combat presenteeism, companies should focus on creating a healthy and motivating work environment, promote work-life balance, offer support to employees facing health problems and ensure that communication and management are transparent and open to deal with any problems or concerns that may affect employee performance.
