Abstract
This work had as its main objective the understanding of the social, psychological and technical structure underling the development of secondary education in Portugal, after several structuring reforms namely the 1988 – 1996 Reform of the Educational System that developed the technological courses of today. The high failure that has been declared in technology education and its relation with the teachers’ formation/education is the problem considered in this work with the studying of two cases. As a methodology, the two secondary schools chosen are filled with the basic patterns of culture in secondary education with different traditions of insertion in the national education system. The investigation resource used was the enquiry by questioning teachers from the technical formation of the technical course of electrotechnics/electronic, half-structure interviews to their students and to the directors of continuous formation centers for teachers to which schools belong. The analysed data allowed inter-relate some difficulties that teachers from technical formation feel towards formation/education that is given/offered to them although conceived by talking into account the data their refer to in the needs diagnostic and the difficulties found by a significant part of technological course students not only in relation to their teachers but also to material and technical conditions offered by the two schools studied
