Abstract
psicológicos parecem ajudar a enfrentar dificuldades adversas, incluindo o estigma. No
segurança e a saúde mental. O efeito do estigma na saúde mental ocorre totalmente
através da autocompaixão e do suporte social. Estes resultados sugerem a importância
The literature reveals that people belonging to sexual and/or gender minority groups (MSG) are at higher risk of developing psychological difficulties due to stress associated with stigma. Memories of warmth and safety, self-compassion, and social support are associated with mental health, particularly those psychological processes seem to help cope with adverse difficulties, including stigma. However, their study lacks analysis in MSG. The present study aims to study the impact of emotional experiences of affection and safety and internalized homophobic stigma on mental health, through self-compassion and perceived social support, in MSG. With a cross-sectional design, this study includes a sample of 203 persons belonging to sexual and/or gender minorities. Self-report questionnaires were administered to assess the constructs under study. The results confirm the indirect effect of self-compassion and social support on the relationship between memories of warmth and safety and mental health. The effect of stigma on mental health occurs entirely through self-compassion and social support. These results suggest the im-portance of promoting self-compassion and social support to address internalized stigma and thus improve MSG mental health.
