Stresse e satisfação profissional nos terapeutas da fala em Portugal: do diagnóstico à educação.

Abstract
Com o presente estudo, pretende-se (i) identificar se a classe profissional dos
Terapeutas da Fala apresenta stresse e probabilidades de desenvolvimento da síndrome
de burnout; (ii) identificar as fontes de stresse na atividade profissional dos Terapeutas
da Fala e a prevalência de burnout; (iii) estudar os níveis de satisfação e realização
profissional dos Terapeutas da Fala; (iv) identificar as necessidades formativas, na área
dos riscos psicossociais, que possam contribuir para o bem-estar dos profissionais em
estudo.
Participaram neste estudo 375 Terapeutas da Fala portugueses, homens e mulheres,
cujas respostas ao questionário online foram obtidas num intervalo de tempo de 26 dias.
Foram utilizados quatro instrumentos: Questionário demográfico, Questionário de
Stresse nos Profissionais de Saúde (QSPS), Inventário de Burnout de Maslach (IBM-
PSH) e a Escala de Satisfação e Realização Profissional (ESR).O tratamento dos dados
foi efetuado com recurso à estatística descritiva e inferencial. Os resultados apontaram
para 89.3% dos profissionais com experiências significativas de stresse e 7.2% com
problemas de exaustão emocional. Foi ainda possível verificar que 82% dos terapeutas
apresenta níveis moderados a elevados de satisfação e realização profissional e que a
maioria (76.5%) demonstra necessidade de formação na área de gestão do stresse
ocupacional. Em termos das hipóteses colocadas tornou-se possível verificar que os
terapeutas mais graduados apresentam menores níveis de stresse relacionados com lidar
com clientes (p=0.022) e carreira e remuneração (p=0.048) mas, maior vontade de
abandonar a profissão (p=0.021). São os profissionais contratados que evidenciam
maiores níveis de stresse global (p=0.015), relacionados com o excesso de trabalho
(p=0.003), níveis superiores de exaustão emocional (p=0.001) e tendência a
despersonalizar (p=0.005). No entanto, são os profissionais que se encontram no quadro
que apresentam graus superiores de satisfação e realização profissional (p=0.003). No
que se refere ao número de horas semanais os resultados mostram que quanto maior o número de horas de trabalho maiores os níveis de stresse (p=0.000), em especial no que
se refere a relações profissionais (p=0.018), de exaustão emocional (p=0.001) e de
despersonalização (p=0.043) vivenciados pelos Terapeutas da Fala. São também estes
profissionais que apresentam maiores níveis de satisfação e realização profissional
(p=0.000) e maior desejo de abandonar o local de trabalho (p= 0.028). Os profissionais
com mais tempo na empresa são os que evidenciam maiores níveis de stresse,
relacionado com o excesso de trabalho (p=0.039) e se mostram mais sensíveis ao
desenvolvimento de exaustão emocional (p= 0.011) e a despersonalizar (p= 0.027). São
igualmente estes terapeutas que se apresentam mais satisfeitos e realizados
profissionalmente (p=0.000). Terapeutas mais velhos (p=0.004) e com mais anos de
serviço (p=0.000) referem menor vontade de abandonar a profissão. Por último, são os
profissionais com necessidade de formação na área dos riscos psicossociais que se
mostraram mais stressados (p=0.009), com maiores níveis de exaustão (p= 0.026) e
mais suscetíveis a despersonalizar (p=0.000).
Os resultados mostraram ainda que, o stresse profissional, as dimensões de burnout e o
desejo de abandonar a profissão e o local de trabalho correlacionam-se, de forma
positiva, entre si. Por outro lado, correlacionam-se, de forma negativa, com os níveis de
satisfação e realização pessoal e profissional. Como complemento à investigação é
sugerido um plano educacional para gestão do stresse profissional de forma a colmatar a
necessidade formativa expressa pelos participantes.
With this study, we intend to (i) identify whether Speech-Language Pathology professionals show stress and likely development of burnout, (ii) identify the sources of stress and the prevalence of burnout (iii) study the levels of satisfaction with the profession of Speech Therapists, (iv) identify training needs in the area of psychosocial risks, which may contribute to their professional well-being. The sample included 375 Portuguese Speech-Language Pathologists men and women, whose responses to the online questionnaire were obtained within 26 days. We used four instruments: Demographic Questionnaire, Questionnaire Stress in Health Professionals (QSPS), Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI - HSS) and Satisfaction Scale and Professional Achievement (ESR). Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results showed 89.3% of participants experienced significant levels of stress and 7.2% had problems related to emotional exhaustion problems. It was also possible to verify that 82% of therapists shows moderate to high levels of satisfaction and professional achievement, and the majority (76.5%), believes it is essential to have training in occupational stress management. Hypotheses testing showed that therapists with higher levels of education have lower levels of stress related to dealing with clients (p=0.022) and career and remuneration (p=0.048) but greater willingness to leave the profession (p=0.021). Professionals working under term contracts show higher levels of stress overall (p=0.015), related to overwork (p=0.003), higher levels of emotional exhaustion (p=0.001) and a tendency to depersonalization (p=0.005). However, tenured professionals have higher degrees of satisfaction and professional achievement (p=0.003). Results also show a very high positive correlation between higher number of working hours per week and higher stress levels (p=0.000), in particular with regard to professional relationships (p=0.018), emotional exhaustion, (p=0.001) and depersonalization (p=0.043). These professionals also show higher levels of satisfaction and professional achievement (p=0.000) but express a greater desire to leave the workplace (p=0.028). Professionals who have worked longer in the same concern show higher levels of stress related to the excess work (p=0.039) and are more sensitive to developing emotional exhaustion (p=0.011) and depersonalization (p=0.027). However these therapists show more satisfaction with their professional performance professionally (p=0.000). Older professionals (p=0.004) and those with more years of service (p=0.000) report less willingness to leave their profession. Finally, professionals are in need of training on psychosocial risks are more stressed (p=0.009), experience higher levels of exhaustion (p=0.026) and are more likely to depersonalize (p=0.000). Results also show that the work-related stress, the burnout dimensions and the desire to leave the profession and workplace correlate with each other positively. On other hand they correlate negatively with higher levels of satisfaction and personal and professional achievement. As a complement to the research work an educational plan for the management of work-related stress is suggest to meet the need for training expressed by the participants.
