Abstract
O envolvimento parental escolar tem sido alvo de modificações e preocupações
por parte das escolas, de investigadores e também por parte dos pais. Este conceito tem
abrangido e consciencializado mais escolas e pais sobre a importância da sua prática
para o sucesso académico dos alunos.
O presente estudo aborda as perceções do envolvimento parental na visão dos
pais e na visão dos filhos ao nível do 1º ciclo do Ensino Básico, tendo como objetivo
geral estudar quais as perspetivas dos pais e dos filhos sobre o envolvimento parental
nas atividades escolares. Pretende-se deste modo, descrever valores de envolvimento
parental na perspetiva dos pais e na dos filhos e comparar com amostra de referência, e
também, averiguar se existem diferenças de envolvimento parental, na perspetiva dos
pais e na dos filhos, entre participantes de escolas situadas no meio urbano e rural e
entre participantes de ambos os sexos.
Com este propósito foram aplicados dois questionários em duas escolas do
Concelho de Penafiel (uma situada em contexto urbano e a outra em contexto rural),
destinados aos pais e aos alunos. Foram utilizados dois instrumentos distintos,
nomeadamente, a Escala de Envolvimento Escolar Parental Atual (EEEPA) (Moreira,
2009), destinada às crianças, e o Questionário de Envolvimento Parental na Escola
(QEPE- VPa) (Pereira, Canavarro, Cardoso, Mendonça, 2008), destinado aos pais.
Fizeram parte da amostra 292 participantes, sendo 132 alunos e 160 pais.
Verifica-se que os pais do sexo masculino apresentam um menor envolvimento
parental nas subescalas comunicação escola-família e atividades de aprendizagem em
casa. Os rapazes percecionam um envolvimento parental menor que o verificado pelas
raparigas. Verifica-se que o meio em que a escola se encontra inserida não influencia o
envolvimento parental. Por último, pode-se também atestar que a amostra do presente
estudo reporta a melhor envolvimento parental escolar, comparativamente com os
valores de referência.
No final, são discutidos estes resultados à luz da literatura e apontadas as
limitações e os planos futuros desta investigação.
The parent involvement at school has been subject of changes and concerns by schools, researchers and also by parents. This concept has involved and made aware more schools and parents about the importance of their practice to the academic success of students. The present study approaches the perceptions of parental involvement in the vision of parents and children on the 1st cycle of basic education level, having as overall objective the study of the outlook of parents and children about parental involvement in school activities. It is intended thus to describe values of parental involvement in the perspective of parents and of the children and compare it with a reference sample, and also examine whether there are differences in parental involvement, from the perspective of parents and children, between participating schools located in urban and rural areas and between participants of both sexes. With this purpose two questionnaires were applied in two schools in the municipality of Penafiel (one located in an urban context and the other in a rural context), for parents and students. Two different instruments were used, the Escala de Envolvimento Escolar Parental Atual (EEEPA) (Moreira, 2009), directed at children, and the Questionário de Envolvimento Parental na Escola (QEPE-VPa) (Pereira, Canavarro, Cardoso, Mendonça, 2008) for parents. Took part of the sample 292 participants, being 132 students and 160 parents. It turns out that male parents show less parental involvement in school-family communication and home learning activities subscales. The boys notice a lower parental involvement than the observed by the girls. It is also verified that the environment in which the school is inserted does not influence the parental involvement. Finally, can also be attested that the sample of this study reports a better school parental involvement when compared with the reference values. At the end of this work, these results are discussed at the light of the reference literature and are pointed out the limitations and future plans of this research.
