Funções executivas, ansiedade e satisfação com a vida: Um estudo com idosos

Abstract

O estudo da temática das Funções Executivas (FE) na população idosa tem-se revelado bastante complexo, sobretudo no que se refere à sua associação com outras variáveis. O presente estudo tem como principal objetivo comparar padrões de desempenho de idosos sem e com ansiedade nas FE inibição, flexibilidade, planificação e atualização. De igual forma, procura analisar a relação entre a satisfação com a vida e a ansiedade. Para dar resposta aos objetivos, recorreu-se à avaliação breve do estado mental, através do Mini-Mental State Examination (Folstein et al., 1975), à aplicação do Inventário de Ansiedade Geriátrica (Ribeiro et al., 2011), para a divisão dos grupos (36 sem ansiedade e 54 com ansiedade) e da Escala de Satisfação com a Vida (Simões, 1992). Foi ainda administrado um protocolo de avaliação das FE: Stroop (Fernandes, 2013); Trail Making Test (Cavaco et al., 2008); Subtestes da Escala de Inteligência de Wechsler para Adultos 􀂱 III (Simões et al., 2008); Fluência Verbal (Cavaco et al., 2013); Mapa do Zoo e Procura de Chaves (Barbosa et al., 2011); Teste dos Cinco Dígitos (Sedó, 2007) e o Wisconsin (Heaton et al., 2001). A amostra é constituída por 90 idosos institucionalizados e não institucionalizados (55 mulheres e 35 homens), com idades compreendidas entre os 66 e os 95 anos. Os resultados obtidos demonstraram que a ansiedade influencia, negativamente, o desempenho das FE inibição, flexibilidade, planificação e atualização, existindo diferenças estatisticamente significativas entre os dois grupos. Os resultados evidenciaram, também, que existe uma relação negativa significativa entre a satisfação com a vida e a ansiedade.

The study of the Executive Functions (EF) in the elderly population has proved to be quite complex, especially in relation to its association with other variables. The main objective of the present study is to compare patterns of performance of the elderly without and with anxiety in the EF inhibition, flexibility, planning and updating. Likewise, it seeks to analyze the relationship between satisfaction with life and anxiety. In order to respond to the objectives, a brief assessment of mental status was done through the Mini- Mental State Examination (Folstein et al., 1975). It was also applied the Geriatric Anxiety Inventory (Ribeiro et al., 2011), to divide the groups (36 with no anxiety and 54 with anxiety) and the Scale of Satisfaction with Life (Simões 1992). An evaluation protocol for EF was also administred: Stroop (Fernandes, 2013); Trail Making Test (Cavaco et al., 2008); The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale - III (Simões et al., 2008); Verbal Fluency (Cavaco et al., 2013); Zoo Map and Key Search (Barbosa et al., 2011); Five Digits Test (Sedó, 2007) and the Wisconsin (Heaton et al., 2001). The sample consisted of 90 institutionalized and non-institutionalized elderly (55 women and 35 men), aged between 66 and 95 years. The results showed that anxiety negatively influences the performance of EF inhibition, flexibility, planning and updating, with statistically significant differences between the two groups. The results also showed that there is a significant negative relation between satisfaction with life an anxiety.
