Abstract
The work presented focuses on the domain of school success but essentially on the innovative aspect of investigating whether “the formation of classes” is one of the main factors to consider in the students’ school success/failure (poor school performance), contributing to the construction of a school for everybody. The inclusive school is responsible for every student, based on the perspective of a school for everyone, with everyone and of everyone. With this investigation we aim to understand the advantages and the inconveniences of the applied criteria in the classes formation of 3rd Cycle of Basic Education in the municipality of Maia. This way we have analyzed the success/failure of all the students of this city between the school years 2007/2008 and 2012/2013. It was used the mix method, standing out in the gathering of data the analysis of the documents. This study allows us to confirm that the criteria of the formation of classes contribute significantly to school success and when this formation is supported by projects, students’ school results are higher regarding the average in the city. Another subject tackled in our work was the number of students per class. After the statistical treatment of the data we could get, we concluded it has little significance regarding the number of students with classifications under 3. We noticed that the female genre presented better school assessment than the male genre. We also observed that the appearance of ‘mega schools’ in this city might have contributed to the significant increase in the school failure rate in the school year 2012/2013. We also concluded that the school leaders have an important role whilst giving effective answers to students, since the rate of school abandonment is very low.
