Abstract
promover o ensino inclusivo.
Since the 1960's, the educational system has been subjected to several metamorphoses in Portuguese legislation, namely with the introduction of the Basic Law on Education No. 46/86, dated October 14th and of the Decree-Law 319/91, of August 23rd, among others. These legislative changes aim to improve the conditions of Special Education and, consequently, the integration and/or inclusion of students with special educational needs in regular classes. Within this context, the present study, supported by qualitative methods, sets its main goal in understanding to what extent group work in the regular classes with special educational needs´ students could promote Inclusive Education. To that end, we interviewed nine teachers from the second and third cycles of Basic Education and Secondary Education schools (n=9) who, through a semi-structured interview, told us their points of view on the subject. These were then submitted to a content analysis. Now, the main conclusion of our study is that group work, as a learning and integration tool for students with special educational needs, albeit its enormous socialization and knowledge interchange potential, is the exception and not the rule that may be replicated, compromising its inclusion capabilities.
