Abstract
materna e a relação mãe-bebé.
a relação mãe-bebé.
This research is part of the “Care4mommies” project, which aims to investigate the impact of maternal psychological flexibility on the relationship between the representation of maternal attachment and the mother-baby relationship. Considering the limited literature on this topic, the results show that psychological flexibility is associated with more secure attachment styles and a more positive mother-baby relationship. This investigation has two main objectives: 1) to understand whether mothers differ in their psychological flexibility according to their attachment style; and 2) to understand whether, longitudinally, maternal psychological flexibility mediates the relationship between mothers' attachment representations and the mother-infant relationship. A total of 207 mothers, aged between 18 and 45 years (M = 31.92; SD = 4.41), with bachelor's degree or higher (78.5%) participated in the two assessment moments by completing the Attachment Scale in Adults and the CompACT in pregnancy and the CompACT and the Post-Birth Baby Attachment Questionnaire at three months of the baby's life. Mothers with a more secure attachment representation had higher levels of psychological flexibility than mothers with insecure attachment styles. In addition, mothers who are less anxious and more comfortable with closeness seem to have more skills to be aware of present moment experiences, and to live according to their life values and this translates into a more positive mother-baby relationship. This study will provide evidence for the development of preventive actions, involving the promotion of psychological flexibility, during pregnancy and postpartum, which encourage a healthier experience of motherhood and the quality of the motherbaby relationship.
