Publication Open Access Infertility-related stress and quality of life: The role of experiential avoidance2025-09-10 - Barbosa, Carolina; Santos, Susana; Pedro , JulianaInfertility is a disease with impact on the individuals’ lives which can be perceived as a stress-inducing experience. Higher levels of infertility-related stress have been associated with lower levels of quality of life. The aim of this study was to examine experiential avoidance as a pathway through which infertility-related stress is linked to quality of life in women with fertility problems. This cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 285 Portuguese women (M = 35.61; SD = 4.80) who completed a sociodemographic and clinical data sheet, and self-reported measures of infertility-related stress, experiential avoidance, and quality of life. The findings showed that infertility-related stress is positively associated with experiential avoidance and negatively associated with quality of life. Furthermore, experiential avoidance mediated the link between infertility-related stress and quality of life. Given that experiential avoidance may be a pathway leading to a worse adaptation, interventions focused on experiential avoidance may result in higher levels of quality of life in women dealing with fertility problems. Considering that this mechanism is a process underlying psychological inflexibility, which can be targeted by acceptance and commitment therapy, this therapy might be beneficial for women dealing with fertility problems, contributing to an improved quality of life.Publication Restricted Access Feeding practices among Portuguese parents of 5- to 10-year-olds: Psychometric properties of the comprehensive feeding practices questionnaire2025-06-16 - Canário, Ana Catarina; Silva-Martins, Marco; Santos, Susana; Krasniqi, Lindon; Campos, Joana; Abreu-Lima, Isabel; Cruz, OrlandaParents, as primary caregivers, are responsible for most decisions related to children's lifestyle. One of the key elements in children's lifestyle is parents' feeding practices and given the relevance of these practices for children's weight and health-related outcomes, it is important to have valid and reliable measures available to address them in both research and practice. In the current study, we examined the psychometric properties of the Comprehensive Feeding Practices Questionnaire (CFPQ) in a sample of Portuguese parents of children aged 5-to-10. We evaluated the questionnaire's factor structure, criterion-related validity and test–retest reliability. Publication Open Access The role of self-criticism in the relationship between infertility-related stress and anxiety and depression symptoms in women facing [comunicação oral]2023-06 - Pedro, Juliana; Alves, M.; Santos, SusanaInfertility is a demanding and stress-inducing medical condition, wich can trigger anxiety and depression symptoms in women. [...]Publication Open Access Mapping acceptance and commitment therapy outcomes in the context of infertility: A systematic review2023-11-29 - Barbosa, Carolina; Pedro, Juliana; Santos, SusanaEvidence suggests that individuals with infertility are confronted with psychosocial challenges. This has led to a significant number of studies highlighting the subsequent negative effects on mental health. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) has already been established as having a beneficial effect on psychological issues related to other health conditions. Since infertility is a relevant stressor, ACT was also expected to have a protective effect on the mental health of individuals with this disease. A systematic review of the literature was conducted to identify studies assessing Infertility and ACT. Empirical and quantitative studies were considered when they assessed mental health variables and ACT hexagon model components in patients with infertility. Out of the 137 studies initially identified, six met the eligibility criteria and were included in the review. The samples were composed of women (three) and couples (three). Since ACT variables appear to be associated with better mental health outcomes, couples with infertility were expected to benefit from intervention addressing ACT components. Implications for future research include the need for a distinction between ACT variables, the use of validated assessment methods and the empirical examination of predictors of changes in ACT variables.Publication Open Access Infertility-related stress and quality of life: The role of psychological inflexibility2023-04 - Barbosa, Carol; Pedro, Juliana; Santos, SusanaComunicação oral apresentada no IV Congresso Internacional do Centro de Investigação em Neuropsicologia e Intervenção Cognitivo-Comportamental (CINEICC) da Faculdade de Psicologia e Ciências da Educação da Universidade de Coimbra.Publication Restricted Access Delivering Group Lifestyle Triple P through digital practice: A case study with Portuguese parents2021-01-27 - Canário, Catarina; Abreu-Lima, Isabel; Silva-Martins, Marco; Campos, Joana; Rodrigues, Catarina Enes; Tavares, Mónica; Mansilha, Helena; Torres, Sandra; Lemos, Marina Serra; Cruz, Orlanda; Santos, SusanaThe purpose of the current study was to explore the delivery of the Group Lifestyle Triple P (GLTP) parent group programme through digital practice. Eight mothers of obese children aged 6–11 were recruited from a university hospital. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study sought to characterise the perceived changes throughout the intervention and explore the outcome measures on children’s BMI z-score, weight-related behaviour problems, parents’ self-efficacy, interparental conflict and parenting styles assessed pre- and post-intervention. Participants identified changes in themselves, in positive parenting, and in their ability to manage children’s nutrition and physical activity, contributing to improve children’s lifestyle behaviours. The clinical results were similar to the findings of studies in which GLTP was delivered in-person. Delivering GLTP through digital practice seems to be a possible way of implementing the intervention, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.Publication Open Access Doença mental e psicofármacos na gravidez2022-11-05 - Moutinho, Adriana; Moreira, Cátia; Leitão, Andreia; Bento, Elisabete; Santos, SusanaComunicação oral apresentada no Congresso 10 anos PIN summit.Publication Open Access Mapping acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) outcomes in the context of infertility: A systematic review2022-07 - Barbosa, Carol; Pedro, Juliana; Santos, SusanaStudy question How ACT variables are associated or may impact mental health outcomes (i.e., anxiety, stress, and depression symptoms) in patients with an infertility diagnosis?
