Definição de percursos turísticos cicláveis na Região de Aveiro com recurso aos sistemas de informação geográfica

Abstract

A bicicleta é um modo de transporte importante e com uma longa tradição na Região de Aveiro, sendo aposta das entidades locais ao longo dos anos. Contudo, a maioria dos projetos implementados restringem-se a um âmbito local. Nesse sentido, foi desenvolvido um projeto de definição de percursos turísticos cicláveis intermunicipais, no âmbito de um estágio curricular na Comunidade Intermunicipal da Região de Aveiro (CIRA). Para isso, foi efetuada uma revisão da literatura acerca do turismo ciclável e como são aplicados os sistemas de informação geográfica (SIG) nesse campo. Em termos metodológicos, numa primeira fase foram definidos os pontos de interesse (POI) e área de implementação de cada um dos percursos, tendo em consideração a estratégia da região e de cada um dos municípios. Para definir o trajeto ideal recorreu-se aos SIG, neste caso à extensão Network Analyst do software ArcGIS. Assim foram considerados critérios que influenciam a experiência do turista ciclável, como o comprimento, o declive, o limite de velocidade e a capacidade da via, assim como a paisagem e a distância às zonas industriais. O resultado são dez percursos curtos, seis médios e quatro longos, que permitem aos vários segmentos deste nicho de mercado visitar POI e conhecer a Região de Aveiro. Os percursos cicláveis podem ser utilizados pela CIRA na promoção da bicicleta e do turismo na região.

Bicycle constitutes an important mode of transportation with a long tradition in the Aveiro region, and it has caught the attention of the region’s stakeholders over the last years. Several projects have been developed at the local level. Thus, the development of this project, which was part of a curricular internship in the Comunidade Intermunicipal da Região de Aveiro (CIRA), aims to fill in the gap by defining cycling tourist routes at the regional level. First, a literature review about cycling tourism and how geographic information systems (GIS) can be used in this field was made. In terms of methodology, in a first stage, points of interest (POI) and the implementation area of each route were selected, according to municipal and regional strategies. GIS play an important role in finding the best route to travel through POI, combining elements that influence the cycling experience. Therefore, the Network Analyst extension from ArcGIS was used, taking into account the length, slope, speed limit and road capacity, as well as the landscape and the distance to industrial areas. The result is the development of ten short-haul routes, six medium-haul routes and four long-haul routes, which allow different market segments to visit POI and discover the Aveiro region. The cycling routes allow CIRA to promote cycling and tourism in the region.
