Implementação dos ideais das revoluções de 1820 e 1910 no Ultramar português: Cabo Verde.

Abstract

A presente dissertação enquadra-se no âmbito do Doutoramento em História Política. Procura-se, através dela, entender o impacto ou impactos que as revoluções liberais tiveram em Cabo Verde. Permite-nos compreender: o antes, o durante e o depois das revoluções, o que, de facto, alterou, com os ideais que os liberais acreditavam. Contudo, apercebe-se das alterações no quadro institucionais e sociais que ocorreram, a partir da vitória dos liberais, entre 1834 a 1911. No Ultramar, mais precisamente em Cabo Verde, o liberalismo provocara a extinção da escravatura, introduziram as eleições enquanto modo de legitimação do poder, alargando a base social de recrutamento de eleitos locais bem como para a representação a nível do Congresso ou do Parlamento da Nação Portuguesa. Constatamos que a novidade vra,quando os republicanos, na sequência da mudança de regime ocorrida, em Outubro de 1910, conseguiram a separação entre a Igreja e o Estado levara, naturalmente, a laicização do estado, permitindo a liberdade religiosa. Os ideais das revoluções de 1820 e 1910 instalaram-se no arquipélago pela via pacífica. Os habitantes de Cabo Verde acolheram de bom grado às inovações introduzidas, quer no aparelho administrativo quer nas instituições políticas. This present work seeks to study the impact or impacts that the liberal revolutions had in Cape Verde. The work makes us understand: the before, the during and the afterwards of the revolutions, which, in fact alters, the ideals that the liberals believe in. However, we understand the alterations in the social and political institutions that took place from the victory of the liberals between 1834 to 1911. In the oversea countries, more precisely in Cape Verde, liberalism provoked the end of slavery, introduced elections as a way of legitimizing power, widening the social base of recruitment of chosen localities as well as representation at the level of the Congress or of the Parliament of the Portuguese Nation. We establish that all the liberal processes culminate when the republicans, in the sequence when the change of regime happened in October 1910, obtained the detachment of the Church from the State, naturally, to the creation of a secular state, permitting religious liberty. The ideals of the revolutions of 1820 and 1910 were installed in the archipelago through peaceful means. The inhabitants of Cape Verde received in good faith all the innovations introduced, both in the administrative sector and in the political institutions.
