Abstract

Wine tourism helps local development through the generation of work and rural income, providing the inhabitants of the region with opportunities for subsistence and fixation on the land. This article aims to carry out a literature review on enotourism in the world in terms of comparing and analysing different global views. The literature review is based on four distinct points: the characteristics of enotourism, international studies on the characterization of enotourism in different countries, the profile of enotourists, and the experiences and sensations valued by enotourists. To carry out the literature review, the main international journals in the field of tourism and business were consulted, always using the keyword “enotourism”. The article clearly characterizes enotourism and exemplifies experiences and sensations valued by enotourists. The article concludes that enotourism market is in constant change, with an increasing level of competition due to the entry of new players, and with increasing concerns about the quality of service.
