Sustentando-se na teoria da autodeterminação, este estudo investiga o papel
mediador da satisfação das necessidades psicológicas básicas na relação entre o clima
parental e indicadores de desenvolvimento positivo na adolescência, nomeadamente de
desenvolvimento vocacional, balanço afetivo e rendimento académico. Participam neste
estudo adolescentes Portugueses do 9º ano (N = 254) de duas escolas do ensino publico,
com idades compreendidas entre os 13 e os 17 anos (M = 14.47, DP = .79), sendo
53.5% do sexo feminino. Os resultados demonstraram que um clima parental apoiante
da autodeterminação, ao nível do suporte à autonomia, envolvimento e calor afetivo,
está relacionado positivamente com melhores indicadores de desenvolvimento positivo
dos adolescentes. A análise de mediação permitiu concluir que a satisfação das
necessidades psicológicas básicas é um mediador significativo da relação entre o clima
parental e o desenvolvimento da identidade vocacional e de bem-estar afetivo dos
adolescentes. Os resultados são discutidos à luz da investigação anterior, sendo dadas
algumas sugestões de investigação futura e implicações para a prática ao nível
psicoeducacional.
Drawing from the self-determination theory, this study analyses the mediating role that the satisfaction of basic psychological needs plays in the relationship between parental climate and indicators of positive development in adolescence, namely of vocational development, affective balance and academic achievement. Participants in this study were Portuguese adolescents from de 9th grade (N = 254) of two public schools, aged 13-17 years (M = 14.47, SD = .79), where 53.5% were female. The results showed that a parental climate that supports adolescents’ self-determination, in terms of autonomy support, involvement and affective warmth, is positively related to better indicators of adolescents’ positive development. The mediation analysis allowed us to conclude that the satisfaction of basic psychological needs is a significant mediator in the relationship between the parental climate and adolescents’ vocational identity development and well-being. The results are discussed in the light of previous research, with some suggestions for future research and implications for psychoeducational interventions.
