Biografia

Carla Azevedo Lobo é doutorada em Gestão pela Universidade Portucalense. É Professora Auxiliar da Universidade Portucalense e leciona em cursos de Licenciatura, Mestrado e Doutoramento, na área das Ciências Empresariais. É também Coordenadora do Curso de Licenciatura em Gestão, desde 2010. É investigadora do REMIT (Research on Economics, Management and Information Technologies). Foi a Investigadora Responsável do Projeto de Investigação ("IEcPBI”) na área dos Negócios Internacionais, financiado pelo COMPETE 2020, FEDER e FCT, entre 2018 - 2022. REMIT – Research on Economics, Management and Information Technologies
Centro de investigação que que tem como objetivo principal produzir e disseminar conhecimento teórico e aplicado que possibilite uma maior compreensão das dinâmicas e tendências económicas, empresariais, territoriais e tecnológicas do mundo contemporâneo e dos seus efeitos socioeconómicos. O REMIT adota uma perspetiva multidisciplinar que integra vários domínios científicos: Economia e Gestão; Ciências e Tecnologia; Turismo, Património e Cultura. Founded in 2017, REMIT – Research on Economics, Management and Information Technologies is a research unit of Portucalense University. Based on a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary perspective it aims at responding to social challenges through a holistic approach involving a wide range of scientific fields such as Economics, Management, Science, Technology, Tourism, Heritage and Culture. Grounded on the production of advanced scientific knowledge, REMIT has a special focus on its application to the resolution of real issues and challenges, having as strategic orientations: - the understanding of local, national and international environment; - the development of activities oriented to professional practice, namely in the business world.

    Migration and export performance: The role of the diaspora remittances

    Migration and international trade represent two fundamental and interconnected aspects of globalization. This paper studies the impact of migration on bilateral trade, using data for remittances as a proxy for migrants in an augmented panel data gravity model framework. Using data for Portuguese bilateral trade with 187 countries for the period 2008-2017, and controlling for other determinants of trade through a standard gravity model, we find that there is a significant impact of remittances on bilateral trade both in terms of exports and imports, particularly regarding some specific types of goods. The evidence of a significant relation between migration and trade has important implications, since it can provide policymakers an alternative option to promote trade and internationalization beyond conventional trade policy.

    Adoption of Generative AI in Portuguese Higher Education: An Empirical Study of Perceptions and Academic Practices

    Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is diffusing rapidly in higher education, yet empirical evidence from Portugal remains limited. We conducted an online questionnaire (n = 77) targeting higher-education faculty and researchers in Portugal and analyzed the data using descriptive statistics and non-parametric tests (Mann–Whitney, Kruskal–Wallis). Participants most frequently reported using QuillBot, followed by Bing Chat and ChatPDF, with a sizable minority indicating the use of additional, unlisted GenAI applications and reported use cases clustered around idea generation, drafting, summarization, proofreading, and coding, while trust and appropriateness varied by task type. Inferential tests suggested differences by gender and by discipline for selected items (e.g., p-value=0.008, p-value=0.039, p-value=0.023); given the small and imbalanced subgroups, these findings should be interpreted cautiously and supplemented with effect sizes and confidence intervals. No statistically significant differences by age or gender were observed for the ethical-concerns items. We discuss implications for training, assessment, and policy design, and outline pragmatic recommendations for responsible GenAI integration in Portuguese higher education.
